Saturday is Rugby Day. Parents, grandparents, rugby fans and even some soccer players gather around the rugby pitch to watch the RugbyFit teams (5yrs – 10yrs) Hurricanes play the Brumbies. Hurricanes won the coin toss and Hurricane’s Captain Ami chose to receive the ball first. Brumbies captain Sarah decided to defend with the wind on their back. Both team looked nervous and excited at the same time. Both coaches directing their teams on where they need to be before the game starts.

The game started with both team’s captain waving to the referee, showing they are ready. Brumbies kicked the ball and Hurricane’s captain Ami caught the ball, ran straight and then cut to his left, out pacing the Brumbies defense to score under the post. Conversion was kicked by Alex, Hurricanes 7 Brumbies 0. Brumbies shocked at how quick the Hurricanes regroup and with some encouraging words from their coach started their counter attack. Receiving the kickoff the Brumbies started their attack to even the score. With some nifty side steps and no look passes the Brumbies where rewarded when #8 Lehi scored in the right corner to close the gap Hurricanes 7 Brumbies 5(conversion missed). Hurricanes got extended their lead when Captain Ami scored his 2nd try of game which almost looked like his first try (Hurricanes 12 Brumbies 7). The Brumbies tried hard to get close to the try line and a few times where on the Hurricanes try line but could not break the hurricane defense. Hurricanes took a lineout from their 22meter and attacked down the field to send their #6 Kalai under the post to give the Hurricanes a 19-7 lead. Just a few minutes before the half #6 Kalai scored his 2nd when a Brumbies turnover and overlap saw #6 Kalai out ran the Brumbies winger. (Conversion made by #11 Alonzo)

Halftime: Hurricanes 24-7

The 2nd half started with the Brumbies taking the kickoff and attacking the left side of the field. Hurricanes defense was found taking nap as Brumbies captain Sarah took a pass from #2 Leo and stretch the Hurricanes defense. A quick recycle from the touch and the brumbies send the ball wide who found #8 Lehi, who side stepped two Hurricane defenders to score. (Brumbies 14 Hurricanes 24) Brumbies kept the pressure on and played most of the 2nd half on the Hurricanes 22 meters. The Hurricanes weathering the attack finally saw an opportunity when the Brumbies knocked the ball. The Hurricanes attacked left and with some no look passes sent the Brumbies in a scramble in defense. With the Brumbies defense slow to retreat to onside, the Hurricanes found #12 Alex split two defenders to score. Brumbies had several opportunities to score but a few mistake cost them points. Final score Hurricanes 29 Brumbies 14. Hats off to the Brumbies who played a lot closer than the score showed. I look forward to the RugbyFit Finals as the Brumbies will get a rematch with the Hurricanes. Rugby, we dare you to TRY!

There were three games total on the day. The young ruggers (ages 5-10) played one match of forty minutes and the more experienced ruggers (ages 11-18) played two forty minute matches.

The young ruggers match was filled with a lot of excitement and keep the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Both of the more experienced ruggers matches were filled with long runs, great passes, and stellar defense from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. In the first game (Lions vs. Black Steel) the Lions team started off to a very good start. They took the opening kick off in for a try, scored by Izzak. (This is Izzak first touch game of the fall because he missed the first set of games due to attending the Serevi Rugby Camp in Utah, where he won the drop-kick and passing contest.) Lions kicked off to Black Steel, the Lions defense stood firm not giving the Black Steel much room to work with. Off of a Black Steel turnover The Lions sent the ball out wide to Izzak, who was in for the try in the corner. Black Steel took the ball the entire length of the field from the restart where they found Jarion for a try. Jarion also added another try in the first half. After the restart, Lions found again an open Izzak wide open on the wing who ran in for his third try of the day. Just before half, Dallen of the Black Steel found the try zone from about eight phases of possession.

After a quick pep talk by the coaches, both teams were eager to take the field for the second half. Lions kicked off to Black Steel who took the ball at the 22 meter line due to the restart going out of the back of the try zone. Black Steel moved the ball nicely down the field and was able to find their speedster Noah out wide for a try. Black Steel never looked back after the first try of the second half. Black Steel found Noah two more times for tries, Brad added two second half tries, and Dallen & Jarion finished with one try in the second half. The lions found some light right before the final whistle to put Dean over for the final try of the match. Try scores from game one: Lions: Izzak (3), Dean (2), Black Steel: Jarion (3), Noah (3), Dallen (2), Brad (2)

In game two, Adults were able to play in the match. The young ruggers really benefit from running with the adults because the adults are able to help the young ruggers get into the right passion on the field. The Black/Yellow was able to out muscle and score the Black/Red to win the second match. Both teams ended the day with the same record of 1-1.

The next touch matches are on November 12, at Silvestri Middle School field. WE DARE YOU TO TRY!!!
BLACKJACKS FALLS SHORT AGAINST TEMPE/RED MTN.

(Silvestri Middle School) Saturday is RUGBY DAY! Today was a treat for Las Vegas Rugby Fan as the Las Vegas Rugby Academy hosted the two top team in the nation, #1 Highland (Utah) and #2 United (Utah) as they travel down to Las Vegas to take on Red Mountain (Arizona) and Tempe. The first game saw Red Mountain upset United, who are the defending 2010 Under 19 National Champions. The 2nd game was a little bit one sided as Highland displayed how rugby is played. It was an awesome treat to see high level of rugby and also to have the Jr. Blackjacks and Academy kids learn from it.
The 3rd game of the day was Jr. Blackjacks against a mix team of Tempe/Red Mtn. After a good warm up and prayer the Jr. Blackjacks took the field. With the wind blowing about 12-15 mph we took the kickoff. We did great to seal and protect the ball and started to move the ball up field. Fitness was the key factor in the game as we moved the ball up the field, the number of supporters reduce and Arizona saw the opportunity and counter ruck to turn the ball over. Arizona started to attack and went wide and the winger knocked the ball on and our #14 Matt picked up the ball and out paced a few defenders to score under the post. We had some great go forward opportunity but lack the continuity to keep going the same direction. We displayed some great individual efforts but in this game of rugby, teamwork always succeeds far better then individual efforts. We won 80% of our lineout’s and stole the ball 4 times. Our the only time we gave the ball away in the lineout is when we did not throw it straight. Our scrum was shaky at the first half as we lost 55% of our scrum. When we started to hit them and push is when we started to control the scrum more. In the 2nd half we won 80% of our scrum which was an great turnaround for us. We had many opportunity to score but lack of supporters and protecting the ball. Overall the Jr. Blackjacks played well against a very talented team. Jr. Blackjacks has no where to go but up. We made 80% of tackles which was really good and the only time Arizona scored was out wide or turnover in the open field. Our Defense around the ruck area was solid and Arizona knew the only way they can move the ball was to go wide. We performed well and are looking forward for the next game and training. It was just great to see the camaraderie of the Jr. Blackjacks and how the develop as a team. I see a lot of potential with the Jr. Blackjacks and the next time we play Arizona, it will be a different result. Back to work on Tuesday with Fitness and Fitness and enhancing our rugby skills. RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTY, RUGBY!! Under a cloudy and winding afternoon the LVRA Whites took the rugby pitch to take on the LVRA Blues. This was the first meeting between the two team and it was a promising game to watch and ref. Both side had a good mixture of new and experience players and also for the first time a group of girls. The academy is working on building an all girl team to compete and today was the first time to see some of the girls play.
The game started slow with each team trying to feel each other out. The Blues seem to be the team that gelled quickly and it showed as the score the first try of the game. Blues Dakota took a quick tap and beat two defender to take the lead 5-0. The Blues again extended their lead with some quick hands and footwork to find an open Malcolm in the corner. 10-0. The Whites responded back with a try with Ernie taking the matters in his own to score a long run. 10-5. The Whites finally found their rhythm and the see-saw tries started. When the Blues scored a try, the whites would reply with a try. The halftime score was Blues 35 Whites 25.
The Whites started the 2nd half the same way then ended, with a quick try off the kickoff. Whites 30 Blues 35. The whites continue its attacking arsenal with 4 more tries to take a 50-35 lead. The Blues scored one more try but could not muster anymore. Final White 50 Blues 40. The best part of the game was watching how the U19 Girls played with good communication and plenty of good passing. The U19 Girls also display an awesome awareness of rugby skills. This U19 Girls is going to be a force to be reckon with. RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTY, RUGBY.

Chiefs comes from behind to win

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 187px; height: 269px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YIVKHzb85C0/TZAe4YBuAOI/AAAAAAAAALY/uHQtRD5L3Wo/s320/imagesCA57D6M7.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5589001091437953250" />
LVRA TOUCH LEAGUE REPORTS

Under 8/Under 10

On a windy Saturday afternoon the LVRA Chiefs come from behind to upset the LVRA Hurricanes 21-19. It was a one side affair in the first half with the Hurricanes controlling the possession of the ball. Hurricanes defense was solid and scored a beautiful try from a turnover ball. The Hurricanes got on the board again with some awesome passing from such young player to extend the lead to 10-0. Chiefs had opportunity to score and get on the board but just could not finish the movement. Just before half the Hurricanes again with an excellent defense turn the ball over and send it wide to take a 19-0 lead.
The 2nd half was another story as the chiefs responded to a prep talk from their coaches and made some personal changes. The Chiefs found and after many attempts to break the Hurricanes defense to score under the post. (7-19) The coaches talked seem to lifted the chiefs as they quickly got back on the score board again with some great passing, running and keeping the ball. The Chiefs were reward with a penalty and took the advantage to score under the post with only minutes remaining. (Chiefs 14 Hurricanes 19)
In the final second of the game and with the ball in hands the Chiefs attacked from their half of the field. Phases after the phases the Chiefs control the ball attacking and the Hurricanes working hard to hold the attack. What seem like an eternity the Chiefs found a gap and sent the player to the corner to score. (Hurricane 19 Chiefs 19). With no time left the Chiefs kicker placed the ball and with a Johnny Wilkinson stance kicked the ball. Chiefs make history as one of the best come from win in rugby to take the win. Awesome display of rugby skills, teamwork, communication and just overall athleticism from both the Hurricanes and Chiefs. Looking forwards for more rugby game from these great young rugby stars. This time it was 7s and again playing against kids older, bigger and sometime faster. The Jr. Blackjacks landed in pool B with some well establish teams. Jr. Blackjack’s first game kickoff off at 8am against Cherry Creek Rugby Club from Colorado. The game did not start till 9ish due to miscommunication of what field the U19 7s were to play at. After arriving at the correct field and a quick warm-up and a prayer, the Jr. Blackjacks were ready. The Blackjacks played well spinning the ball wide and attacking the wing. We made several breaks but had no support to finish. This was the Blackjacks first game at playing 7s so the supporting line was lacking. But a few quick words and adjustment the Blackjacks were back at attacking again. “One more pass” became the word of the day as we fell short of the try line due to not passing the ball one more time to the open player. Overall the Jr. Blackjacks played well and performed well against a well-trained and older opponent.
The Jr. Blackjacks then took on Valley Center Avengers Rugby Club. Blackjacks came out firing and score 2 beautiful tries to take the lead. But due to experience and fitness then Blackjacks fell short of another opportunity to win. Also there were some questionable tackling techniques by the opponent. The players began to gel as team and understand how to compete in 7s compare to 15s style rugby.
The Final game of the day was against Arizona Bobcats. Due to the lateness of all the games due to miscommunication on the event organization we found out 5 minutes before kickoff we are to play. So with no time to warm up and trying to name my starting 7s we took the field. Arizona scored first with some awesome display of quick hands and speed. We finally regroup and started to work our way down the field. But questionable call by the ref game the Arizona the ball and they beat us outside. After the game the Arizona coach came over and was impress with the how the kids played and want to schedule more game against us in the future. I told him we would love to play them soon.
After the final standing of the pools we found our self in the Bowl bracket and were schedule to play our fourth game of the day. But the team we were supposed to play, never showed up. So we made it to the Semi-final the next day. But we forfeited the game so that the players can go and watch the International teams play and enjoy the weekend. Was it a good choice? Yes, because on Saturday I saw the parents and the players enjoy the atmosphere, the games, fan festival and just everything about the USA 7s. I am just happy the kids played with heart and never gave in. I look forward to training and train the Jr. Blackjacks to be the team to beat next year in the LVI. “Respect, Responsibility, Rugby”

Jr. Blackjacks compete in the LVI and still came out a winner!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w-ocjUdmTM8/TV8PdaSn0xI/AAAAAAAAAKA/SBsnqYyyjK4/s320/168911_1601150756884_1479518970_31230284_7191242_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575191861656015634" />
Las Vegas Invitational Tournament (LVI)
Feb. 10 2011 (Field #3 330pm)
The Nursery Field located outside of the Sam Boyd Stadium was filled with rugby players from around the nation and world. All types of accent, color, sizes came to Las Vegas to participate in the most exciting game call rugby and to watch 16 International teams compete to who is king of Las Vegas 7s. The Las Vegas Rugby Academy (Jr. Blackjacks) players were also part of the crowd. A feeling of excitement and butterfly filled the air. Each player from the academy looked ready to what was awaiting them on the rugby pitch. The Jr. Blackjacks’ opponent was Edina Rugby Club from Minnesota and was entering their 13 year as a club. Before the match I had a brief meeting and introduction with the Edina Coaching staff. Edina club had a lot of experience players and been playing rugby for a lot longer than all of the LVRA players. I was concern with the size and age of the Edina rugby players compares to his LVRA players (average age is 13 and the oldest player was 16yrs old). After a quick meeting with the parents of the LVRA and all feeling fine with the kids playing, the coaches got the players dressed and ready to go.
The Jr. Blackjacks did their team warm up and split into forward and backs. Jr. Blackjacks captain Isaac K. lost the coin toss and Edina chose to receive the ball. I believe I was more nervous then players. But with a prayer and a loud “Vegas Rugby” the butterfly flew away and I was ready to see some rugby action. The kickoff was good with some good chase from the forwards. I was amazed at how the Jr. Blackjacks kept tackling and kept their defensive system strong. Each player calling “Ruck, Guard, Post” and point to who had what man. The Edina used their size to attack the smaller forwards. But to my surprise as well as Edina, the Jr. Blackjacks forwards reply back with hard hitting tackles and held their own. After 15 minutes of playing defense, Edina scored a try beating us out wide after failing to beat us in the middle. I was proud of how well the players played and how well they respond to every breakdown and no matter what the score was, they kept fighting. Edina found that the only way they were going to beat the Jr. Blackjacks was go wide and use their speed cause the Jr. Blackjacks defensive system in the middle was solid. This was a great improvement for the players as the week before they had a hard time defending. They score did not reflect how well the players played. This moment was one of my fondest and beats any other feeling I had in my rugby experience to see how much the players played with their hearts. At every breakdown we competed, at every scrum we pushed and every lineout we fought. Edina coaching staff and players had nothing but positive feedback. The head coach of Edina said he was shocked at how well the kids tackled and organized they were around the breakdown, in a few years the Jr. Blackjacks will be a team to reckon with.
No words can express the feeling I had after the game and how proud I was with each player and how they played with their hearts. Playing with heart cannot be taught or learn, that something you have to find by yourself and the Jr. Blackjacks had heart that day. After the game I got a lot of good comments from players, coaches, former international and international players who saw the kids play. They were amazed to see 12 years old compete against 17-18 years old. As a reward for the kids, Fox was there to interview Mele and get the kids on the 10pm news. It was awesome to see the kids on the news and I know they were on cloud nine when they saw it as well. I look forward for more games and training to enhance the player’s skills and hopefully see all compete in professional, elite and maybe International level. Both teams were playing open style game, each trying to out run and spread the ball wide. The Blacks scored first with some nice line break and finally scoring in the corner with #3 Erine doing the honor. The Blacks extended the lead with #9 Shane taking the ball from the base of scrum and sneaking by the defenders to score. Blacks 10 Reds 0. The Reds finally got their break from a Blacks knock-on and watching #13 Seth going the distance. On the kickoff the Reds retain the ball and spread it wide to find #8 Jeff side steping a defender to score. Reds 10 Blacks 10. The Blues got on the scored board first with two tries from London #8 and Luke #13. But the Brumbies quickly answered back with 2 tries from Anthony #10 scoring a nice solo try and new player #11 Triston. Brumbies #11 Triston also scored 2 more tries to give the Brumbies a 20-10 lead. Just before halftime the Blues closed the gap with a try from #9 Mathieu, who also converted his own try. Halftime: Blues 17 Brumbies 20
In the 2nd half the 2010 Champions, Blues came out firing with #12 Paula scoring two hat-trick tries and set up another with his mid-field partner #13 Luke dotting down. Second-half tries from #1 Job and #12 Gabriel proved crucial for Blues as they were pushed all the way by the Chiefs but eventually won 49-44.

Led by Man of the Match #12Gabriel helped the Blues by scoring 4 first half tries and two in the 2nd half, with the 6th try being the game decider. The Chiefs got on the scoreboard first with #11 Damien beating 3 defender to go under the post. (conversion good by #10 Anthony) Less then 1 minute the Chiefs scored again. The Blues were penalize for being offside and #7 Paula tapped the ball and ran 40 meters to give the chiefs the lead. 14-0 (Conversion was good by #10 Anthony)

But the Blues will be denied with #12 Gabriel breaking the Chiefs defensive line and out pacing the cover defense to score. 7-14(Conversion was good by #8 Logan) The Chiefs #10 Anthony extended the Chiefs lead with some nifty ball handing spinning the ball wide and working well his forward, after several attacking phases #10 Anthony dummy pass his forward and sliced a small gab to score. 19-7 (Conversion missed) The Blues received the kickoff and started attacking the chiefs defense. After what seemed like 100 attacking phases #12 Gabriel found the try line. #12 Gabriel went on to score 2 more tries to give the Blues a 27-19 lead going into the half.

Chiefs Coach Siva said “we got too comfortable when we had the lead and let the Blues back in the game. We need to get focus and work together to stop their scoring opportunity.” All of the Blues tries game from #12 Gabriel but could not have done without his teammates. Blues Coach Lama said “All of our tries was scored by one person but it was a team effort. We can win this game relying on one player.”

The 2nd half started with the Chiefs Ami taking the pass from #9 Sarah and beating 2 would be tacklers and sending the ball wide to Tristan T. to score in the right corner. 24-27 (Con. Missed) The Chiefs started to make their comeback only to have one the passes intercepted by #12 Gabriel. Gabriel went the distance to extend the Blues lead (32-24) Blues extended their lead with tries from #8 Logan (conversion made by Tristan h.) and #1 Job. 44-24. The Blues were now in a comfortable lead, so they thought.

The Chiefs started their comeback with some great teamwork and individual effort to close the gap on the Blues. With ball in hands the Chiefs attacked in their own territories and found #2 Paula out wide to took the space and never looked back. 29-44 On kickoff the Blues knocked the ball given the Chiefs the ball in the Blues 22meters. Chiefs wasted no time and sent #12 Ami under the post. 34-44. It seem like deja vu again with the Blues knocking the ball deep in their own territories. This time it was Tristan T. doing the honor. 39-44 With less then 5 minutes in the game, #2 Paula taking a quick tap at the Chiefs 40 meter and beating the scramble defense. 44-44.

With less the 5 minutes and the Blues attacking from their own 22 meters. The Blues were having a hard time breaking the Chiefs defense. Waves after waves of Blues attack could not break the Chiefs defense. Fatigue started to show on both side. The Blues kept attacking the same direction and was able to find a overlap with some quick hands found #12 Gabriel who barely beat the defender to score. 49-44 The Chiefs receiving the kickoff with no time left and started to move the ball up field. The Chiefs finding themselves in the Blues territories kept attacking. Blues started to get fatigue and gaps started to open. Chiefs had opportunity to score only to be caught meters from the tryline. A knock-on by the chiefs ended their comeback as the referee blew the whistle to end the game. There was no jumping or yelling or any sort of celebrations as both teams were tired from an exciting game. Blues showed class by hugging the Chiefs players and saying it was the best game they ever played. Sportsmanship won today. Both the Blues and the Chiefs are CHAMPIONS. As the Las Vegas Rugby Academy logo says “Rugby, we dare you to TRY”, today the Blues and the Chiefs put that to the test.

Blues come from behind to beat the Chiefs

UNDER 10/UNDER 7
Nov 13 2010 (Silvestri Middle School)
In one of the most exciting game this season, the LVRA Blues came from behind to beat the LVRA Chiefs at the final whistle (48-46). Blues played the last 5 minutes of the game with a man short. Blues Fly half #10 Ami was hurt and was out of commission till the final second when Ami score the final try to tie the game (46-46). Blues #9 Anthony was given the ball to kick for the win. Anthony took the ball and placed it and took a few steps back. Doing his best Jonny Wilkinson pose, Anthony kicked the ball sending it to the right side and fans went crazy. The kick is good.
Coach Siva said “Anthony did awesome. He was calm and focus and if it was me I would definitely missed it” Anthony was 4 for 4 for the day and the final kick was something to remember. Referee Vaha said “It was one of the best games I ever refereed or watched. Anthony was awesome but the whole Blues team was outstanding coming back at the last second to win the game”
The Blues struck 1st with #10 Ami taking a pass from Sarah #7 and going the length of the field to score (Conversion was good by Anthony). The Blues scored again with Anthony #9 taking a quick tap, Anthony side step a defender and then out ran the chiefs. (Conversion missed by Ami. 12-0) The Chiefs got on the board with Tristan #13 getting the ball out wide with space to run. (Conversion missed 12-5) Tristan scored hat trick22 meters out tie the game. (Conversion good by Logan 12-12) The Blues replied back with Anthony scoring his 3rd try with some great ball movement from his forwards and backs. The Blues extended their lead with Sarah #7 finding space outside with no defender in front of her. (24-12) But the LVRA Chiefs fought back before the half, with Job #4 taking the ball short from Dillian#2 splitting two Blues defender and sliding into the try line. (Conversion made by Tristan 19-24) Just before halftime, the chiefs took the kickoff and sent the ball wide left and then back to the right and Tristan found a gap to score. (Conversion missed 24-24)
Halftime LVRA Blues 24 LVRA Chiefs 24
The 2nd half started the same way the 1st half ended. The Chief took the kickoff and attack the left side of the field, sending Tristan #13 under the post. Tristan again scored 3 minutes later to give the chief the lead. (34-24) But the LVRA Blues did not give up and kept fighting back with tries from Anthony (34-34). With 10 minutes left in the half, Chief’s Tristan scored two more tries and one conversion to give his team the lead (46-34). With only 3 minutes left on the clock, the blues attacking in the chief’s 20 meter line finally broke the defense with Anthony doing the honor. (41-46). at some point during the Blues attack to score Ami #10 was injured. So with no time left and a reminder from the ref, that the next dead ball is game, the Blues attack and made sure they kept possession of the ball. For what seem like 5 minutes of attacking by the Blues, the Chiefs defense started to some fatigue. After some treatment to Ami (who received it while still on the field of play) the Blues got a boost of confident and kept attacking. After a tackling (touch tag) Dominick #3 passed the ball to his left to Sarah who sent it to Ami. Ami sidestepped a defender then out ran the cover defense to score in the corner with no time left (46-46) now comes the moment of courage. The entire Blues player looked at Anthony to take the ball to kick and Anthony with no hesitation took the ball and placed it on the kicking tee. The kick was good, Blues 48 Chiefs 46. What a way to end the regular Fall Season. Don’t miss the 2010 Fall Season Championship next week as the hungry and on fire Chiefs goes up against the Summer Champions Blues.

LVRA Hurricanes holds on to win

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 246px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IcVk6BBsiDo/TOCFeKxzy7I/AAAAAAAAAIE/RSm94Vo8KP8/s320/59372_153507601335879_100000299202587_418752_7143681_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539574295001549746" />
LAS VEGAS RUGBY ACADEMY
Under 19/Under 13
Nov. 13 2010 (Silvestri Middle School)
In the final game of the Fall Season the LVRA Hurricanes upset the LVRA Brumbies 40-35. The game started with Hurricanes kicking off the ball. The Brumbies using their deadly back attacked from their own 22 and was awarded with John scoring in the left corner (5-0). John will score his 2nd of 3 tries after tackling his opposite # and taking the ball to score under the post (Brumbies 10-0 Hurricanes). The Brumbies then turn the ball over again and this time saw Cody score his 1st of 2 tries. (15-0) it looked like it was going to be another blow out game for the brumbies, but the Hurricanes other plans.

Trailing by 15 points the LVRA Hurricanes lead by their playmaker, Shane #9 attacked the Brumbies forward pack. Hurricanes forward began to move the ball up the field and Shane was able to receive a pass from Dallan to score. (5-15). Shane led the Hurricanes in scoring 3 tries and was controlling the pattern and game plan. Coach Cody “Shane did well under pressure to regroup his team and focus on playing Hurricane rugby.” Hurricane scored their 2nd try with some nifty ball handling from the backline and sent the ball out wide where Alex #11 did the rest. (Hurricane 10 Brumbies 15) Before the whistle for halftime, Brumbies responded back with Jeff #13 intercepting a pass and going 40 meters to score.
(HALFTIME: Brumbies 20 Hurricanes 10)

The 2nd half started the same way the first half with the Brumbies John #13 intercepting a pass and out running 2 hurricane defender. (Brumbies 25 Hurricanes 10). That try must have hit a nerve in the Hurricanes team. The Hurricanes went to work and score 3 tries (Shane 2 and Alex). With the score tie and halfway through the 2nd half, the game got a little bit more intense and exciting. The Brumbies scored a try from Cody #9 and then John #13 to take a 10 point lead. But it was short lived as the Hurricanes Shane #9 scored his 3 try from the base of the ruck and then Isaac #10 intercepting the ball to even the score. Hurricanes took the lead for the 1st time with a try from new player Dayline #6. (Hurricanes 40 Brumbies 35). “It was awesome to score my 1st try in rugby and I look forward to more” said Dayline. Brumbies had several opportunities to score but handling errors and mental mistake hinder their chances. With the win LVRA Hurricanes goes into the Fall Championship with confidence while the LVRA Brumbies goes back to prepare to defend the title.

LVRA at Clark County School District Staff Development

District Wide Staff Development
Physical Education/Adapted PE Conference

November 2 2010 Sunrise Mountain High School

While most kids were off from school enjoying time with family, friends and so forth. Las Vegas Rugby Academy (LVRA)staffs were out working and spreading rugby to the Clark County School District Physical Education Department. Clark County School District had a two day Staff Development and Las Vegas Rugby Academy (LVRA) was invited to teach all the PE teachers the fundamental of rugby. President of the LVRA Siva had this to say, “It was a great success today with all the PE teachers participating in the session and for their willingness to learn all about rugby. I did not expect to have so many teachers come out at 7am and want to learn rugby.”There was a total of 150 teachers, from elementary to middle school and high school, whom all attended the early session at Sunrise Mountain High school. It was awesome to see how excited the teachers were to compete against each other in rugby and still walk away injury free (well not quite). LVRA Director of Rugby Vaha Esikia said “At first the teachers were not sure rugby would be a good sport to introduce to their kids. But after participating and learning they soon realized that rugby is a sport for everyone. We taught them the non-contact version of rugby and it was funny how competitive they (PE teachers) got,at one point of the clinic we saw one guy hurt his shoulder.” The teacher was fine and just needed to walk it off. But the teacher said he will definitely introduce rugby in his school because he had a great time. This is the 2nd time Las Vegas Rugby Academy has linked up with Clark County School District to teach rugby. LVRA is looking forward for more opportunity to share the fun sport of rugby with all of Clark county and its surrounding areas.

Hurricanes outlast the Brumbies

Hurricanes outlast the Brumbies

Under 13/Under 19 (Oct 30 2010)

This was a game of two halves. Hurricanes and Brumbies played a very physical and fast game. Brumbies McKenna scored two tries against Hurricanes 3 tries (Brad 2 and Cody). “Both team played very well and at the end it was who wanted it more” said Coach Bill. It seems that the Brumbies lost that competitive edge in 2nd half. “We just gave up in the 2nd half and pretty much gave the game away” said McKenna.

The 2nd half started with some good forward drive from the Hurricanes forwards and backs. Hurricanes beat the Brumbies to the breakdown. After several effort to break the Brumbies defense, Hurricane’s #9 Shane split two defender to score (Hurricanes 20 Brumbies 10). Brumbies score two more tries from Prop Jacob and fullback Cody to take the lead and the win. “At halftime we talked about what we needed to do to beat the tough defense and it worked” said Hurricanes Brad.

Coach Allen said “The Brumbies just fell apart due to lack of communication and teamwork. We will go back to the basic on Tuesday and work on what rugby is all about” It’s a different story then last weeks game when both team played a high intensity game and some great individual efforts. Director of Rugby for LVRA Vaha Esikia said “I think both teams played great. Brumbies players are doing well and will enhance their rugby skills at training and that they will be well prepared to handle any situation on the rugby pitch.”

Las Vegas Rugby Academy have a bye next week and will play their next game Nov 13 2010. Each team doing their warm-ups and trying to catch their second wind minutes before kickoff.

At the start of the whistle the game was fast and quick. Each team trying to find their rhythms and play their pattern.

Black’s Coach Allen D. “ Our game plan was to spread the ball early and attack midfield. On defense we wanted to force the Reds to make mistake so we can capitalize on it.

Red’s Coach Cody “ We wanted to attack them (LVRA Blacks) early with our forwards and then send the ball wide. We had a new player in fly half in Taylee. She did well but through training and game time under her belt, she will be a effect player maker.”

The Blacks follow their game plan and spread the ball wide causing the Reds to scramble to defend their goal. After 10 min. of attack Black’s Alex found the Try line (5-0). Blacks 2nd try came from a scrum on the right side of the 50 meter. #9 Shane got the ball to his backline who did some nifty ball movement to go wide. Black’s forwards were there on support to ruck, where #9 Shane sends its to #10 Isaac to made a awesome scissors to send #14 Alex under the post. (10-0). The LVRA Reds responded with a 80 meter solo try from Jeff. Jeff picked up the ball after the Blacks backline knocked it and went the distance. Red’s Jeff out pace 3 defenders and side step another in his hat trick try.
Reds Captain, Makena “It was an awesome solo effort and moral boost to our team” Reds got back on the board with the forwards #8 Dallen doing the hard work to beat the defender to score in the right corner.

Halftime score Reds 20 Blacks 25

Second half was another story as the Blacks scored 4 unanswered tries to take a 35-20 lead. But the Reds fought back and seem to close the gab only to have the final whistle end the game. Assist Coach Keith was not to happy with how his team performed after scoring 4 tries. “ We (Blacks) let them back in the game with poor defense and lack of communication. That’s something we will be working on at training” If there was a little bit more time in the half I think the Reds would have made history as one of the best comeback of all time. Reds Coach Cody “ I’m proud of the players and how they reply back being down 40-20 and losing 40-30. They never gave up and worked hard. We will go back to the drawing board and work out the mistakes”

The score could have been closer being 30-35. The Reds were attacking and a knock-on gave the ball to the Blacks who with 2 passes found space and out ran the Reds cover defense. This is was one of the most memorable games of the Las Vegas Rugby Academy history.

LVRA Blues overpower LVRA Chiefs

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IcVk6BBsiDo/TMUBnSQecvI/AAAAAAAAAG0/PUpHreV540s/s320/IMG_8960.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5531829491721990898" />
Las Vegas Rugby Academy Under 7/Under 10

The Blues did everything in their power to hold the Chiefs from scoring. The Chiefs were without their high scoring player Ami due sickness.

Cheifs Coach Tino F. " Not having Ami on the field hurt our scoring opportunity but made us work more as a team. Iam more impressed with how our team stuck together and kept fighting till the final whistle"

The Blues got on the board 1st with some excellent ball movement saw Anthony score from 15meter out. Anthony also score 4 more tries to help the Blues take the win.

Blues Coach Jessica R. "Anthony was awesome today and you can tell he knows his way around the rugby field. Anthony is a great asset to the Blues with his knowledge and understanding of the game. He also has a sweet accent"

Anthony is a transfer player from England, whose father had to relocated to Las Vegas for work. Anthony has a bright future in the Las Vegas Rugby Academy and in rugby.

The Chiefs got the board a few mintues with Tristen doing the honor. The conversion was missed (7-5) Also for the Chiefs Naya got 2 tries and Job got one. Tristen also add two more tries.

Final score was 41-37 as the Blues holds on to win a thriller. A side note was the Under 7/Under 10 got Goal Post and was awesome to see the kids faces as they tried to kick the conversion after scoring. Also scoring for the Blues were Domanic and Dillian. We have some future rugby star coming from the Las Vegas Rugby Academy.

Training has been moved to Field #7

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IcVk6BBsiDo/TLznHWH8PhI/AAAAAAAAAGs/ENtHxvVUw-s/s320/sika.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529548555888115218" />
We are still training at Sunset Park but we moved to a new field (untill end of the year). The Chiefs sneaked past the Blues (Spring League Champs) 20-15. This was one of the most exciting game played this year with both teams trying to get the upper hand. The Chiefs got on the board first with Mat scoring after some nifty ball movement. The Blues took the lead when Paula scored after some great forward movements. Just before the halftime whistle Chiefs Josh scored to go into the halftime tied. Halftime Blues 15 Chiefs 15
This was a half of two stories. The 2nd half was all about defence and both side found it hard to move the ball foward. The Blues had several opportunity to score but just couldnt get the ball to the open player. The Chiefs finally broke the Blues Defenses when with Matt scoring in the corner. In the final minute of the game the Blues tried but just couldnt get over the tryline. Final Chiefs 20 Blues 15.

UNDER 13/UNDER 19
The Brumbies are the LAS VEGAS RUGBY ACADEMY Summer League. LVRA Hurricanes got back on the board with Jon attacking the right corner and outpacing the winger to score. Hurricane's Buddy scored to tie the game. The Brumbies scored before halftime with Brad sneaking through the left of the ruck. (Halftime:Brumbies 15 Hurricanes 10)
Halfway through the 2nd half saw Brumbie's Dallen taking the ball in hand and outpacing the several defender and scoring in the right corner. On kickoff Brumbie's Jacob intercepted the ball and went distance to score. (Brumbies 25 Hurricanes 10) LVRA Hurricanes got back on the board with tries from Jon and shane. A few more attempts from the Hurricanes fell short and the final whistle blew.

SUMMER LEAGUE AWARDS

LVRA MVP
SHANE P.

UNDER 7/UNDER 10
MVP: AMI E.

UNDER 13/UNDER 19
MVP: ISSAC C.

Under 13/Under 19 Las Vegas Rugby Academy Results:

Aug 14 2010 (Silvestri Middle School)

Coming off a big win last week, the Las Vegas Rugby Academy Brumbies looked to be the favorite to win it again. But today's result’s was a different story and a different team. The Las Vegas Rugby Academy Hurricanes had other plans for the outcome of today’s rugby match. Before kickoff the LVRA Brumbies were missing a few key player, most notable was Ethan R. (last weekend’s Man of the Match and top scorer) and Head Coach Allen Dunford. LVRA Brumbies stated the game with no Coach till halftime. The LVRA Hurricanes received the ball on the kickoff and moved the ball wide from end of the rugby pitch to the other. After several phases the Hurricanes found Shane R. open in the right corner. (Hurricanes 5 Brumbies 0) Hurricanes wasted no time to score their 2nd try coming of a long interception by Jon F. to go half the pitch to take a 10-0 lead. LVRA Hurricanes then display some awesome defense holding the LVRA Brumbies from scoring or even getting close to the try line. On a LVRA Brumbies knock-on the Hurricanes spread the ball wide and found Shane R. again to score his 2nd rugby try. Hurricane’s Jon F. was on fire scoring his 2nd try of the game on a Brumbies error. With 10 minutes left the Brumbies finally got on the board with Isaac C. shooting a gap found in the defense and scoring. Just before halftime Bud scored a hat-trick for the Hurricanes. (Halftime score LVRA Brumbies 5 LVRA Hurricanes 25)

Playing without several keys hurt the Brumbies but also without Coach Dunford was even more frustrating for the Brumbies. Stepping to coach the Brumbies was Rob Cornelius and with a little word of encouragement sent the team back on the field. Trying to regroup, LVRA Brumbies Captain Isaac C. led his team in attacking the Hurricanes Defensive line. It paid off as #8 Dallen D. scored to make the score Brumbies 10 Hurricanes 25. But that was the only time the Brumbies scored as the Hurricanes defense became harder to break. The Brumbies had several close opportunity but the Hurricanes defense was just too good today. Hurricanes had tries from Micah T. scoring his 1st try of the year and returning from long vacation Alex. Winning this game was very important for the LVRA Hurricanes as they head into the Championship Game next week. The LVRA Brumbies are on the receiving end and who knows what the outcome will be next week at the Championship Rugby Game. Will the Brumbies jump back and win it all or will the Hurricanes keep their winning streak going?

Under 7/Under 10 Game Report Aug 14 2010

Report given by Cody Adams:

Chiefs 30 Blues 25

The Chiefs and Blues sqaured off today in a tight game. (10-10) The Chiefs turned it on after that to finish the half scoring three more times with Matthew scoring two more times and Caleb scoring once using good passing and teamwork to get the blues on their heels defensively. With the score 25 to 20 in favor of the Chiefs they had to regroup and did so with a break away from Max. With the Blues chasing him he off loaded the ball to Matthew and continued chasing with Matthew giving the ball back and Max scoring the try to put the Chiefs up 30-20. The Blues weren’t done yet, fighting to the finish they received the ball and drove the to the Chiefs 5 meter line with Ami taking the pass and scoring a try. (30 to 25 Chiefs) The Blues kicked and gave up some ground defensively but stiffened up this time inside the 5 meter line and forced a turnover, but couldn’t mount any offense, having a knock on behind the try line as time expired. Blues were trailing early from a Chief counter attack that went the distance and kenny scoring in the corner. Kenny (Chiefs) again scored after some nifty ball movement between the chiefs to take the lead 10-0. Blue's Mike took the matter into his own hands and scored a solo try. After a long period of back and forth attacks the Blue's Job scored to even the score. After a short water break, the teams went at it again and the flood gate opened. LVRA chiefs made several breaks but could not finish due to lack of support. Blues were a little more successful then the chiefs and took the lead at half 30-25. The 2nd half was all LVRA Blues lead by Job and Mike. Chiefs tried several times to get into the tryline but several knock on and lack of support hurt them. Final Score: Blues 50 Chiefs 35 (Summerlin Spartans had a bye)

Under 13/19:
Under the 110 degree and partly cloud, LVRA Hurrricans took on the Brumbies to see whose the better team. Both teams rugby skills increased tremendously and ball movement was smooth. Of course there was your normal knock-on and forward passing but overall both teams played a very fast control and exciting game. The halftime score was 25-25. The final score was 40-40 and each played awesome. The players have a bright future in rugby and hopefully be part of the 2016 USA team in the olympic."
<img width='1' height='1' In the Under 7/ Under 10 the LVRA Blues took on the LVRA Chiefs. The blues were the 1st to go on the board with a from hat-trick try from Huni. The Chiefs answer with quick hands and a few side-step and pure speed as Mike score a try. A few minutes later the chief went on the board again with mike scoring a solo effort try. The halftime score was Blues 5 Chiefs 10. The 2nd half started with high turn over rates and a few contact (we playing two hand touch rugby). On a turn over the blues attack the right side of the field and then shot the ball back to the left to where Mat was waiting to score the blues try. what a great team effort. With both teams tied at 10, the blues Huni then took the ball in his own hands and score 3 solo tries to give the blues a 25-10 lead. The chiefs kept working back to score and were at the 5meter line but never was able to score. With 1 min left in the game Mike score the chiefs final score to fall short. Chiefs 15 Blues 25. great effort by both teams.

In the Under 19/Under 13 was a much faster and higher scoring. As the LVRA Hurricanes ran away from the Brumbies 60-30. In the 1st half is was all Hurricanes with 4 tries coming from Veuki and one from Sione. In the 2nd half was a little bit more even as the Brumbies started to fight back with Dallen (2 tries) and Veuki (3 tries) and craig one. Hurricanes also got tries from Ana(2 tries) Joe (4 tries) and Sione (1 try) Veuki was traded to the brumbies at halftime on a multi-dollor contact:). At the end both team played well and all enjoyed it.

See you all at training Tues. Let spread the word and get more kids to fall in love with rugby and play the sport they play in heaven.

LVRA Youth League Schedule

Teams time of Training (all teams train on Tuesday and Thursday)

Under 7 : 415pm - 530pm
Under 10: 415pm - 530pm
Under 13: 430pm - 615pm
Under 19: 430pm - 630pm

Game Schedule
March 6th 2010
March 13th 2010
March 27th 2010
April 3rd 2010
April 17th 2010
April 24th 2010 (championship)

LVRA Youth League

Las Vegas Rugby Academy Youth League starts Tuesday 23 2010 at Sunset Park.
